Guided Hike
Join a Maine Licensed Guide for two memorable fall hikes during peak foliage season.

These guided adventures offer participants a safe, educational, and scenic outdoor experience in the Western Mountains region. Both hikes are considered moderate; however, difficulty can vary depending on individual fitness and comfort level. Participants should come prepared for full days outdoors with appropriate clothing, footwear, food, and water.

Cranberry Peak – October 3rd
Location: Stratton area (Delorme Map 29)
Hike Distance: 6.4 miles

Estimated Hiking Time: 4.5 hours
Elevation Gain: 2100 feet
Estimated Total Duration: 9–10 hours (est. drive time 4.5 hours round trip total)
Meet at Bangor Parks & Recreation at 7am for 7:30am departure.


Cranberry Peak is a classic Western Maine mountain with rewarding views across the Bigelow Range. This guided hike follows a rugged and scenic trail that includes steady climbing, exposed ridgelines, and panoramic summit vistas. Participants will learn about local geology, wildlife habitats, and backcountry safety skills along the way. Due to the length of the hike and elevation gain, hikers should be comfortable with sustained physical activity and uneven terrain. The guided experience ensures a steady pace with breaks, support, and trail interpretation throughout the day.
 
 
Pleasant Pond Mountain – October 10th
Location: Bingham area (Delorme Map 30)
Total Travel Time: 4 hours 20 minutes
Hike Distance: 2.5 miles
Estimated Hiking Time: 2 hours
Elevation Gain: 1230 feet
Estimated Total Duration: 6.5–7.5 hours (est. drive time 4 hours round trip total)
Meet at Bangor Parks & Recreation at 7am for 7:30am departure.

Pleasant Pond Mountain is an excellent introduction to Maine’s fall hiking season and offers a shorter, family-friendly adventure with rewarding views at the summit. The guided hike includes a moderate climb through mixed forest before reaching an open ledge overlooking Pleasant Pond and the surrounding hills. Along the route, participants will learn about trail stewardship, local ecology, and safe hiking practices. This trip is well-suited for newer hikers, families with older children, or anyone looking for a relaxed but scenic fall outing.

General Information
  • All guided hikes are led by a Maine Licensed Guide trained in navigation, safety, and local natural history.
  • Participants should bring a daypack, water, lunch, appropriate layers, and sturdy hiking footwear.
  • Weather in October can vary, so hikers should be prepared for cool temperatures, wind, and changing conditions.
  • Transportation is included in each day’s schedule & registration fee. We will meet at Bangor Parks & Recreation building 647 Main Street, Bangor and drive to the destination in a 12 passenger van.
